October 16th, 2018, London ON - Today, the London Food Coalition celebrates the first anniversary of the refrigerated food truck in operation. It marks one year transporting and redistributing recovered food across London. In the past year, the London Food Coalition has successfully worked to tackle food insecurity and reduce food waste.
“With the endorsement of the Middlesex London Food Policy Council, the London Food Coalition has rescued 60 tons of usable food in our first year and distributed it throughout the city to partner agencies that directly assist Londoners struggling with food security while significantly reducing greenhouse gases by keeping the food out of landfill,” said Doug Whitelaw, Executive Director of Ark Aid Mission and one of the founding members of the London Food Coalition.
“We applaud those visionary businesses which consistently donate and look forward to the day when no usable food is needlessly discarded from our local food vendors.”
