3 WAYS TO BRING FOOD BACK TO LIFE

Updated: Jan 13, 2021

Don’t give up on your mushy carrots or floppy lettuce just yet.

These quick fixes recommended by Love Food Hate Waste can revive your lost causes in the kitchen from definite throwaways to healthy, delicious meals.

Don't give up just yet!

1. Wilted

A quick dip in a bath of ice water for 5 to 10 minutes is all it takes to perk your wilted veggies right up. And if your greens are still not crisp enough to munch on raw, toss them into a cooked dish to enjoy.

2. Stale

Toasting your baked goods can reinvigorate your groceries including stale chips, crackers and bread. You can even take it one step further and transform your day old bread into fresh baked croutons to sprinkle over salads and soups.

3. Salty

It’s easy to accidentally over season a meal but that doesn’t mean it should end up in the trash. You can simply add some vinegar, lemon juice, or brown sugar to fix the problem or dilute it with water, crushed tomatoes, or unsalted broth.

If your soup is too salty you can also place a raw, peeled potato into the pot. It will magically absorb some of the salt. Remove the potato before serving and you can combine it with another boiled potato to make a deliciously seasoned side of mashed potatoes.

Next time you go to toss a meal in the trash, think of these quick tips to revive your food and cut down on food waste.
